The Next Chapter

In the past few months, every time I have looked at the clock and seen 11:11, or every railroad crossing I passed in the car with my feet raised, every opportunity I came upon to make a wish, I had wished for the same thing. It’s not that I truly felt this sort of thing would actually work, but I was willing to take my chances. It couldn’t hurt to make use of every opportunity out there!

On May 6th, I received a phone call I will never forget. Hugues Ansermoz, Alpine Canada Alpin Head Coach, was just calling to notify me that I have been chosen as a member of the Women’s Canadian Alpine Ski Team! So, in your face disbelievers…. it obviously has something to do with all of those wishes,… duh!

I can’t remember a time where I was more emotional than when I told my Mom the news with tears streaming down my face. Especially since this time last year I wasn’t sure I had it in me to come back from yet another injury, another surgery. So thanks to all of my trainers, surgeons, physios, coaches, friends, family and supporters. It’s cliche, but oh so true… I couldn’t have done it without you!

I met someone last year who may just be the pivotal factor in my off-hill training that broke the curse of the dreaded End-Of-Season Dislocation. Matt Nichol, my friend, trainer, and one of the men in my life that I respect most, basically simplified life more me. When I came to him in desperate hope of changing the pattern of my past, he told me “A+B=C”. Basically, all components add up to make the result…. if the result isn’t what is desired, then the flaw is in one or more of the components. Find that component/s, come up with a solution and execute it. Special thanks to Matt for helping me, in an enjoyable way, to find my flaws and  tackle them to the ground!

I am very excited to be joining the wonderful group of women that make up the CAST. If you’re interested, you can follow their blogs through links found on www.canski.org.

Again, many thanks all around! I am pleased to see where all of my hard work has put me so far, and can’t wait to keep my nose to the grindstone to see how far I’ll go!
